GECAS is sponsoring the next generation of aviation professionals!
GECAS and Atlantic Air Adventures Aviation Education Centre in Shannon have collaborated to develop a one-week intensive program targeted at Transition Year (TY) students in the local schools.
GECAS TY Aviation Academy is designed to attract teenagers who have a keen interest in an aviation career and gives them an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the industry.
Whats Involved?
This exciting week-long Aviation Academy introduces TY students to various aspects of the aviation industry through a series of engaging talks and workshops. Students have the opportunity to meet pilots, engineers and air traffic controllers, and to learn about the business and finance aspects of the industry. The week also includes a trip to a live aircraft maintenance facility and a chance to fly the B737NG Simulator with an airline pilot.
The week will close with a visit GECAS, when students will have an opportunity to network with recent graduates of UL’s Aeronautical Engineering who are now working on-site in GECAS & SES. This informal gathering should result in good dialogue and help the students solidify their career plans whatever they may be. There will be a brief presentation on GECAS, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company and how many career options are possible within the sector.
Jane Magill, MD at Atlantic Air Adventures Aviation Centre, said, “We are delighted to be working with GECAS to put in place this programme which will inspire, motivate and prepare the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals for their future careers.”
“GECAS is very serious about attracting the best and brightest in the aviation sector,” said Eleanor O’Connell, SVP Process Management & Controls GECAS. “We want to encourage millennials who are serious about a career in aviation to pursue their dreams.”
“GECAS is a huge supporter of education and actively assists students to develop their careers in the aviation industry. This program is designed to spark the imagination of young students who have an interest in aviation and to encourage them to pursue such interest. It should prove to be a very worthwhile initiative”, said John Ludden EVP and General Counsel of GECAS.

GECAS will sponsor 16 Transition Year students on two Aviation Academy’s over the academic year. The programme is open to all schools all over Ireland and is designed to fulfill one of your TY Work Experience weeks .
