Do you have a fear of flying?
If you feel uncomfortable at the thought of flying, you are not alone!
Our method is to educate you about flight, and to demystify the sounds and sensations you may not like or understand. Our course tutors are experienced airline pilots and flight instructors flying for major Irish and International Airlines with thousands of hours experience under their belts. You can ask them anything you like about flying and they will have the answer!
There are various ways of delivering this course, but we have found that we can significantly ease a nervous individual’s concerns by explaining and demonstrating what really happens up front in an airliner. This takes places on a relaxed one-to-one basis, using a realistic passenger jet simulator here at Atlantic AirVenture in Shannon, Co. Clare. With our course, you have taken the first step towards banishing your fear of flying.
Agenda
We start the session with a pre-flight classroom theory lesson. You will learn about the fundamental theory of flight and so understand how aircraft can fly before you begin.
Our B737-800NG is a fixed base trainer, built from an original airliner cockpit. There is no motion to worry about, although the visuals do give a remarkable sense of movement.
You will be in the First Officer’s seat where you can observe everything happening in real time. You have the full hour flying one-to-one, during which you will see all the systems in operation including: navigation, autopilot, flight management computer, traffic alerting and ground proximity warnings, auto throttle, cabin pressure and fuel systems. Enroute, you will take control of the aircraft and get the feel of flying for yourself. You never know, you might even be converted at the end of your session!
We end the flying portion with some additional approaches and landings in various conditions, allowing you to see how the aircraft can fly with a single engine operational, land in zero visibility or with crosswinds and bumpy conditions.
A debrief, with any questions, followed by refreshments and a tour of Shannon Aviation Museum to unwind.
My 16 year old son has become increasingly terrified of flying over the last few years. I blame myself as I am a very nervous flyer fortunately a few vodkas helps in slighly settling my nerves . We would love to go away for a week before Christmas while I still have annual leave to take from work and before my husband starts radiotherapy for cancer in the Newyear but my son has said he would rather stay home alone (which i know he does not relish) rather than fly. Have you any fear of flying courses coming up soon? I sent him to a hypontherapist last year for a couple of sessions and they seemed to worked albeit temporarily. Many thanks, Eilish
