Engineers Week at Atlantic Air Adventures 2018
Engineers Week is a week-long programme of nationwide events with the aim of celebrating the world of engineering in Ireland.
The week aims to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession to people of all ages, especially students and their teachers and parents
Shannon continues to contribute to a rich skill pool of engineers both locally and globally. With the aim of inspiring the next generation of aviation engineers, Lufthansa Technik Shannon sponsored a day of aviation engineering discovery for one hundred Ardscoil Rís students at Atlantic Air Adventures Shannon.
Shane Moynihan Head of Process Improvement at Lufthansa Technik Shannon opened the event, now in its 5th year, and welcomed all the students. He spoke of the importance of introducing students at a young age to the possibility of a career in aviation and highlighted LTSL training programmes and the future demand for aircraft engineers and technicians over the next 10 years.
The day’s programme is designed to introduce young people to the subject of engineering with a focus on aviation engineering. It includes guest talks from people who work in the aerospace industry and a showcase by Aircraft Maintenance Technician trainees from Lufthansa Technik.
All students got to try a simulated Flying Lesson from a Pilot and have a guided tour of Shannon Aviation Museum to see examples of aviation engineering. The day encourages STEM subjects, showing students how these subjects are applied for real in the aerospace industry.
