Spent a very interesting couple of hours here on a wet morning. Our tour guide was informative and obviously interested in all things planes. In fact his enthusiasm rubbed off... read more on me. It had quite a good range of planes and other flight related items. A great place to go if you're any way interested in planes and great for a
I got this for my boyfriend as he loves airplanes. I though it'd be fun for me too but I didn't expect it to be as good as it was!... read more
We got to compete against each-other on the flight simulator. Then my boyfriend did the 737 take-off and landing which was actually amazing; it was the cockpit of a real 737 and he got to use the same controls a real pilot would use. The experience was very realistic.
Then they demonstrated the inflation of a life vest and we got to keep it afterwards!
There's also a museum with some retired airplanes from several different countries, some are former war planes.
Most of all, the people running it were just brilliant. They were so knowledgeable (they're all volunteers - it's a not for profit organisation). One is a pilot, the other a former member of the US Air Force. They really took their time explaining everything and you could feel the love they have for all things aviation.
A really fantastic and enjoyable day out.
I had an hour booked in the simulator and was really looking fiat's to it. The briefing beforehand was fairly straightforward but there was so much to remember. It... read more didn't matter however as when i got to the simulator the pilot in charge was very clear in his instructions. I couldn't believe how realistic the simulator felt. It is a real 737 cockpit converted into a simulator. I started straight away into a take off and flew around before attempting a landing. It was so realistic that i was actually nervous. After the first landing i was given different scenarios culminating with an engine failure. I came out of the simulator mentally exhausted with the biggest grin. I can't reccommend this any more highly. If you ever wanted to try flying a commercial jet then this is the place to do it.
I couldn't recommend the experience any more highly
This was a great way to spend an afternoon after Christmas. We tried to simulate flying a stunt plane, and then got the opportunity to do the simulated landing of... read more a Boeing 747. The visit was thrill filled and fun- a great way to spend an afternoon. Top marks to the organisers, they are soooo friendly, helpful, professional from the first phone contact, right through the visit and in the whole experience. Great to be able to recommend a place like this.

I got my boyfriend a voucher for a go on the 737 simulator for his birthday.
After booking online, I got a very promt, professional and friendly email from... read more Jane at Atlantic AirVenture, which set the tone for the service we got at every stage. I have no knowledge of aviation or engineering but I found our visit really interesting and enjoyable. We got a friendly welcome, were invited to have a cup of tea if we wanted, etc, but we were also left alone to wander around and see the planes and different artefacts at our own pace. There was room in the simulator for me to sit in as well which was great. The pilot who went into the sim with us did a great job of assessing my boyfriend's skill level and interests and tailoring his experience. The place really has the feel of being run by enthusiasts who are happy to share their interest with visitors. It is really worth a visit even if you don't have the time or money for a go on the simulator.
Went here last week with our four sons 8-17yrs on a family celebration. They all loved the activity, though the tutorial was a little technical for the younger 2,... read more it was necessary for them to realise that this was more than a sit in toy you would see in a shopping centre. They got great care and attention and our experience was made all the better from the wealth of knowledge from staff. They all enjoyed the experience and the museum, having left Shannon almost twenty years ago, it's nice to come back with my kids to share my memories of the planes growing up. Worth a visit.
My two boys gave me a voucher for a flight simulator experience for my birthday. I had to ring up for a booking date and time. So here I was... read more in the centre, greeted at the door and brought into a room upstairs to get briefed about the aircraft they use for the simulation. A Boeing 737-800NG. I was shown a large sheet on a wall showing me the controls and dashboard and overhead elec. panels of the 737. Very important as I am now going to go into the aircraft downstairs. My first tutor accompanies me and I'm introduced to my flight instructor for my time in the Boeing.
This simulator is a cut down 737 as far as the front galley area with a large screen in front of the nose. It is exactly what a 737NG should be in the cockpit area.
I was given further info about the instruments and what the flight was going to be that day. My time in the Sim was to be 1 hour so a quick learning curve. I did a take off from Shannon runway 24, climbed and then we did go arounds and several landings with different parameters ending in a very low cloud landing with decisions to land based on what I could see of the runway, made by me with sweaty palms. I found the whole experience fascinating and pretty exact from what I know about flying. This simulator is as near to an airline one as you can get but it cant compare to a multimillion dollar/euro professional one so you cant get the full professional feel with correct noise, movement and landing jolting etc. For the cost of my day in it, thanks to my boys, I thought it was well worth it, if only for the entertainment value and the education given to me which was invaluable. My instructor was brilliant.
After I finished my wife and I went for a walk around the center as there were loads of exhibits like engines and aircraft. We stayed around enjoying the whole centre in the company of a guy called Sean who was fascinating to listen to as he had been working in aviation in Shannon. He was very educational and entertaining and we learned a lot about aircraft and airports. Time went on and we ended up being there for nearly 3 hours just looking around and talking and hanging out with the staff. They're are all good fun and in the end my wife and I had a great time in Atlantic Airventure. We had now to return home to Dublin but I had memories of that special day, for me and also my wife in Shannon Town near EINN.
We were on vacation in Ireland and as an aviation geek I never go on vacation without visiting a local aviation museum.
This one is much smaller than expected but... read more it's worth the visit for any aviation geek.
The interior section is well laid-out (although a bit too dark to me).
The few planes outside lack explanatory signs and I always find it painful to see a propeller aircraft amputated from its propeller.
My children aren't fluent in english to we didn't book any tour but they look great though.
