Spent a very interesting couple of hours here on a wet morning. Our tour guide was informative and obviously interested in all things planes. In fact his enthusiasm rubbed off... read more on me. It had quite a good range of planes and other flight related items. A great place to go if you're any way interested in planes and great for a wet day.
I visited the air show last weekend with my wife and two children. My son is obsessed with planes so we were looking forward to the visit enormously.
We... read more were charged €18.00 to enter which was reasonable enough we thought but as it turned out the correct entry fee would have been €16.00
even so it was reasonable emough we though until we got inside and there was a charge for almost everything.
a simple sum. it cost me 18 in, plus €7.00 for a cardboard plane that a really nice young lad helped my daughter assemble. if my son had wanted to do the same thing it would have been €14.00. (i noticed as we were leaving that this had dropped to €5.00 per plane which was annoying)
there was a play bus there that cost €2.00 per child per ten minutes and face painting was another 2.00 so 20 minutes which is short enough was €12.00 for the two of them and they wanted to sit in to a couple of planes to get pictures taken each of which was charging €3.00 per child so that was another 12.00.
the total spend after about an hour and a half was up to almost €50.00 and had my son wanted the plane it would have been well over fifty with food to come.
I was really angry on the day and felt totally exploited to be honest.
I did speak to staff members about it most of whom were nice though one young girl at the reception desk had a lot to say about most of the money spent being my choice to buy or not. Considering the children were too old for the little planes that were available free there was literally nothing there for them to do that didn`t cost money other than maybe sitting in the passenger plane.
Having said that my son really enjoyed his day and loved the different things on show I don`t know if anyone else complained but there was a hell of a lot of muttering aboutthe costs going on.
It was a nice day, there was a very decent crowd there but i just wonder if it was an opportunity lost for the place due to short sighted revenue gathering
To engage and enthral 6 'hard to please' ten year olds for a full 2 hours is no mean feat, yet the crew at Atlantic Airventure managed it with aplomb.... read more The ease of booking, the super-friendly telephone conversations and the helpful suggestions about bringing the cake and organising take-away food made it the easiest party ever to organise. The boys and girls were equally interested and totally excited by the simulator experiences, the lifejacket demonstration and the viewing of the planes. To cap it all, they even took photos for me and emailed them on afterwards. Cannot praise the team highly enough. We will be back.
I got my boyfriend a voucher for a go on the 737 simulator for his birthday.
After booking online, I got a very promt, professional and friendly email from... read more Jane at Atlantic AirVenture, which set the tone for the service we got at every stage. I have no knowledge of aviation or engineering but I found our visit really interesting and enjoyable. We got a friendly welcome, were invited to have a cup of tea if we wanted, etc, but we were also left alone to wander around and see the planes and different artefacts at our own pace. There was room in the simulator for me to sit in as well which was great. The pilot who went into the sim with us did a great job of assessing my boyfriend's skill level and interests and tailoring his experience. The place really has the feel of being run by enthusiasts who are happy to share their interest with visitors. It is really worth a visit even if you don't have the time or money for a go on the simulator.

From the start they were great with the children letting them dress as pilots and our youngest a captain where they could then play in a plane. It is very small but we spent a few hours here and the children didn’t want to leave. We will be back when we return to Shannon.
